Who is responsible
Ru’s Jungle Story is a small studio in Wellington, New Zealand, run by Ru. She is responsible for the personal information described here, under New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020. You can reach her at [email protected].
What is collected
- When you get in touch — by WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook or email — your name, how to reach you, and what you write. For a pet portrait, the photographs you send of your pet.
- When you buy something — your name, delivery address and phone number for the courier, and a record of what you bought and paid. Payment is made by bank transfer or a card link on the invoice; card details never pass through this website, which has no payment system.
- If you join the email list — your email address and the date you signed up, nothing else.
- When you visit the website — no analytics, no advertising trackers and no cookies are used on visitors. Like any server, it briefly sees your IP address so it can answer you and slow down anyone hammering the sign-up form.
What it is used for
- Answering you, and agreeing a piece, its price and its postage.
- Making a commission — your pet’s photographs are used to paint them, and are not shared or posted without asking you first.
- Delivering your parcel and sorting out anything that goes wrong with it.
- Sending the email newsletter, only if you signed up for it.
- Showing kind words on the website — a screenshot of what you wrote about your piece, only if you have said yes. Your name and picture are covered unless you would like them shown, and it comes down whenever you ask.
- Keeping the business records New Zealand law requires.
Who else sees it
Only the people needed to do the above:
- The courier, who needs your name, address and phone number.
- The platform you chose to message on — WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook are run by Meta, and email by your provider and hers — each under its own privacy policy.
- The companies that host this website and, when there is one, send the newsletter.
Your information is never sold, rented or given to anyone for their own marketing. Some of these services store information outside New Zealand; they are chosen because they protect it to a comparable standard.
How long it is kept
- Messages and enquiries: for as long as the conversation is useful, then deleted.
- Records of a sale: seven years, because tax law requires it.
- The email list: until you unsubscribe. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information held about you, and ask for it to be corrected. You can also ask for it to be deleted where it no longer needs to be kept. Email [email protected] and you will have an answer within 20 working days — usually much sooner.
If you are not happy with the response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date at the top. See also the terms.
