Guardian of the Vine

$185 NZD for the set — bowl and pot together

The curious guardian watches over the jungle, reminding every traveler that courage and kindness open every hidden path.

A ring-tailed lemur sits on the bowl with its tail curled up behind it, a monkey swings in from the left, and the vine runs the whole way around and joins itself at the back. The pot carries a single banana palm with one small gold flower. Both pieces are carved with the wavy line, cut while the concrete was still damp.

She usually replies within a day, most often in the evening once the studio is tidy. Nothing is charged here — you’ll agree the piece and postage in the conversation.

Why yours will not look like the photograph

Every line is cut by hand and every animal is painted freehand, so the greens sit a little differently, the vine wanders its own way, and the lemur’s expression is never quite repeated. That is the whole point of buying one of these rather than a moulded pot: what you receive is the piece in the photograph, with all of its own small decisions still visible.

The honest detail

Bowl
21 cm across, 8 cm tall — the low wide one, deep enough for a small root ball
Pot
11 cm across, 12 cm tall — takes a standard 10 cm nursery pot inside it
Weight
2.4 kg for the pair, so it sits still on a windowsill
Materials
Hand-pressed concrete, carved sgraffito, hand-painted in thin acrylic layers
Drainage
No drainage hole, by design — plant into a liner or keep the nursery pot inside, and water lightly
Where it lives
Indoors, or a covered porch. Not made for frost or full weather
Sealed
Matte water-based sealer over the paint. Handle it freely; it will not rub off
Care
Wipe with a damp cloth. No soaking, no dishwasher, no scouring — the painting sits on the surface
